DMCA Policy

Note for rights holders: this is a plain-language summary of our DMCA procedure, not formal legal advice. Registering a designated agent with the U.S. Copyright Office and an independent legal review are advised.

M3U Playlist provides M3U playlist links for use in compatible player apps. We respect copyright, and we respond to notices from rights holders as explained here.

Writing your notice

To let us act quickly, please make sure your notice covers each of these points — they are the elements the DMCA itself requires:

  1. Who you are: your full name, mailing address, phone number, and email
  2. The work: a description of the copyrighted work, or a representative list if several works are involved
  3. The material: exactly where the allegedly infringing material appears, so we can find it without guesswork
  4. Good faith: a statement that you believe in good faith the use is not authorized by the owner, its agent, or the law
  5. Accuracy: a statement, under penalty of perjury, that the notice is accurate and you are the owner or authorized to act for the owner
  6. Signature: a physical or electronic signature (a typed full name is acceptable)

Identifying playlist entries

"M3U" is an open file format and not something anyone owns, so a notice has to point to specific material. Name the exact channel or title as it appears in our playlist, and give the date and time you saw it if possible. Generic complaints about playlists as a format cannot be acted on.

Where to send notices

Send DMCA notices through our contact form, starting your message with "DMCA Notice" so it reaches the right person quickly.

Review and removal

Valid notices are acted on without unnecessary delay. We do not decide who is legally "right" in a copyright dispute — our role is to respond to proper notices as the DMCA sets out, and to give the other side a fair route to respond.

If you believe a removal was a mistake

The DMCA gives you the right to respond. A counter-notice sent through our contact form needs:

  1. Your signature (physical or electronic)
  2. A description of the removed material and its former location
  3. A statement, under penalty of perjury, of your good-faith belief that it was removed by mistake or misidentification
  4. Your name, address, and phone number, plus your consent to the jurisdiction of the relevant federal district court and agreement to accept service of process from the complainant

Once forwarded, the complainant has 10 business days to notify us of a lawsuit; otherwise the material may be reinstated in 10 to 14 business days.

Good-faith use of this process

This process exists to protect real copyright interests. Knowingly misrepresenting infringement or a mistaken removal may expose you to damages under section 512(f) of the DMCA.

Repeat infringers

In appropriate circumstances, we terminate the accounts of users who are repeat infringers.

Updates

This policy may change as the law or our service changes; check the date at the top of the page for the most recent version.
